Lesley Sutherland
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Lesley Sutherland is a Composer, Conductor, Writer and Teaching Artist. Lesley has twenty-five years experience composing and writing for film and television, was co-owner of the Vancouver audio production company, Fresh Air Audio, 2003-2016, and has worked extensively in community choral music, opera and live theatre.
Lesley composed and directed the operatic chamber work, “The Troubadour and the Tallow Candle” with the Kettle Society and Vancouver Opera, premiered at the Vancouver Opera Festival in April 2019. She was the Associate Music Director for Vancouver Opera’s “Requiem for a Lost Girl” leading workshops, teaching music and song writing with a community with lived experience with poverty, homelessness, mental health challenges and addiction.
Lesley relocated from Vancouver to beautiful Qathet, in 2018, co-created the Blackbird Creative Wellness youth program with Powell River Youth and Family, and was the Conductor of the Powell River Youth Choir with the Powell River Music Academy 2018-2020. Throughout the pandemic, Lesley continued her work, teaching online voice, creative wellness and creative writing with the Kettle Community and Blackbird Creative Wellness. With Discover Creative Arts Lesley is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her passion for creative wellness, authentic living, music, composition, writing, visual arts, theatre and self expression with the Qathet community.
